Why SEO is important

SEO or search engine optimisation is probably the most important marketing tool for your business and it’s the best way to get people through to your website.

For those that don’t know about SEO or have never gone down the SEO path, you should first know what SEO stands for.

It means search engine optimisation and it’s the process of building so much trust and authority to your website that Google starts to rank it for your main products or service.

For example, if you were a health supplements supplier and you wanted to start an SEO campaign, the goal would be to rank on Google for keywords like:

Health supplements – obviously this would be the main one

Then there would be other keywords such as:

Buy health supplements online

Health supplement suppliers

And then you could go into ranking on Google for the actual products like:

Protein shakes, protein powders, nutrition bars etc. You get the idea. Basically, you want your website to be showing on Google whenever someone is searching for your product. Anything to do with health supplements, you want your website to be there. And this is what SEO essentially does.

Now you know what SEO is, the next thing you need to know is why SEO is so important for your business.

1) Most people go to Google to search for things

This is where you want your website to be. Let’s be honest here. When it comes to internet search, Google is the only place people go to.

They don’t go to Yahoo or Bing, in fact, I have never heard anyone ask me to rank their website on these sites. It’s always Google. All of the time!

SEO will get your website high on Google which is where most of the online traffic is.

Think about what you do when you’re looking for something online. Firstly, where do you go and what do you do. I bet you go straight to Google and I bet you never go past the first page.

Your browsing habits are the same as everyone else’s so this makes SEO even more critical for the success of your business.

2) When you compare SEO to other traditional forms of advertising SEO is actually cheap.

And it gives a much bigger return on your marketing dollar.

Radio, TV and print media ads can be really expensive compared to SEO. Think about just how much an advert in a magazine can cost…thousands and the results are not even close to the effectiveness of a great Google ranking.

This is the reason why so many magazines have shut up shop; because no one is advertising with them.

Google has sucked this market dry by offering a far superior adverting platform.

3) SEO gives your business loads of trust.

If people see your website high up on page 1 they are going to trust it, because they trust what Google puts up there.

Google’s ranking algorithm is so sophisticated that they have managed to weed out all dodgy, untrustworthy companies from their page 1 search results.

People know this fact so if you up there it’s a huge boost to your brand and your business.

Simply put, if Google likes you then you must be good!

4) SEO allows your business to have a huge exposure.

You can target local businesses or you can target the whole country.

Let’s just say you’re a manufacturer of steel doors. Well, SEO allows you to market your products via your website nationally. You can even attract overseas clients and distributors. This has never been possible before unless you had an absolutely massive budget.

5) SEO allows small businesses to compete with the big boys.

Now thanks to SEO, even business start-ups can rank on Google in a matter of months and be competitive online. You don’t have to be afraid of established larger companies. All you have to do is design and build a fabulous website, write awesome content and start doing SEO. It’s as simple as that.

One thing I do want to say is that Google is looking out for fraudulent SEO and SE) that does not comply with their strict guidelines. Don’t try to have a go at it yourself!
